Studies on Air Supply for Efficient Combustion of Fuel Wood

2002
Combustion studies were conducted to study the effect of excess air and air distribution on combustion of fuel wood. Oven dried fuel wood (Ecucalyptus) pieces of 1.5 inch cube were burnt at the rate of 1 kg/hr. with excess air supply of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent and primary to secondary air ratio of 30/70, 40/60 and 50/50. An optimum combustion efficiency of 94.6% with 50% excess air was achieved at primary to secondary air ratio of 40/60. The Co/Co2 ratio was found minimum (0.05) at this optimum operating condition.
