[Clinical aspects of male infertility: 70 cases]

2002
Infertility in couples affects around 14% of the population and the male is responsible for that infertility in around half of the cases. In effect through this retrospective study going from 1998 to 2000 which looks at the cases of 70 Moroccan patients seen for infertility the authors illustrate the epidemiological clinical and therapeutic aspects of male infertility in Morocco. The anamnestic interview targeted among other things the patients history sexuality profession and medication. A clinical examination was conducted of the external genitalia breasts and morphotype in addition to the biological assay which involved a spermiogram and a spermocytogram scrotal Doppler ultrasound of the spermatic veins was conducted in all patients in addition to surgical investigation. The results analysis showed that 50% of patients are referred after a gynecological visit either for abnormal spermiogram or in the absence of gynecological abnormality in the parturient woman the mean age of patients was 38 years. This is the result of the population being underserved medically and delayed consultation. Causes of infertility are dominated by varicocele found in 15% of cases. Results obtained after varicocelectomy were satisfactory in the majority of cases with an improved spermiogram in 60 to 80% of cases a percentage of pregnancy from 20 to 60% and pregnancy in the first year was noted in 43% of couples three couples received intrauterine insemination and four others received an intracytoplasmic injection of spermatozoa. The low use of this therapy is explained by financial constraints. The authors through tables at the end of the article present the etiology of male infertility as a function of the spermiogram concerning these cases studied as well as the treatment of this infertility as a function of the etiology.
