IoT Based Intelligent Control System for Smart Building

2020
Internet of Things (IoT) enabled systems allow users to achieve deeper automation, integration and analysis within the system. It finds applications across many fields like healthcare, industries, smart homes, safety and government sectors through their unique flexibility and ability to be suitable for any environment. Within this context, building automation plays an important role in maintaining living standard of people by providing a secure and convenient environment. The objective of our work is to develop an automatic control of air conditioner (AC) and intruder detection surveillance system for smart buildings. The system automatically controls the compressor cycle of AC based on the values of temperature sensor and motion sensor obtained using the NodeMCU microcontroller. Once the motion is detected, temperature sensor senses the room temperature and if the temperature goes above a threshold value, AC will be turned on and set in to a predefined value. Additionally, if any unknown person entering the house is detected, the system will recognize the intrusion and alert the authorized user via short message service and email along with the picture of the intruder. The intrusion detection and subsequent actions are implemented with the aid of openCV library, Haarcascade classifier and python.
