Light rigid fire blockers

2005
Abstract Different fire-retarded composites are used as facing and filling materials in fire-resisting divisions. They are based on binders such as cement, gypsum, lime, silicates, magnesium-containing binding materials, etc. At the Institute of Natural Fibres, Department of Composites, fire-barrier composites based on exfoliated vermiculite were developed by using liquid mineral binding agents consisting of products of polycondensation of silicates and boron compounds. At the first stage of the research project, composites were obtained which were melting at 950 °C. In order to increase the melting point, at the later stage of the studies, components capable of increasing melting point of the composites (micronized quartz, alumina, etc.) were added. In this way, composites resistant to temperatures above 1000 °C were obtained.
