NASCAP/GEO charging analysis of GEOSAT

2008
NASCAP/GEO code has been employed for on-orbit charging analysis of GSAT-6 satellite. Surface charging of the spacecraft under sunlit and eclipse conditions have been investigated. The GSAT-6 satellite is modeled by specifying the geometry and the exposed surface materials. The plasma environment is represented in terms of a mathematical function called the Maxwellian distribution function. The worst-case representations for both Single Maxwellian and Double Maxwellian distributions in GEO plasma environments have been simulated for estimating the potential build up. This paper details the surface charging predicted using NASCAP on GSAT-6 for sunlit-eclipse-sunlit passage under worst-case environmental conditions.
