Complications of Radiation Oncology

2018
Abstract Radiation therapy plays a major role as the primary or adjuvant therapy for many gynecologic cancers. There are a number of side effects related to the use of radiation therapy. In this chapter, the most common side effects associated with the use of radiation therapy and the management of these adverse events are reviewed. The presentation and management of complications such as proctitis, cystitis, pelvic fractures, fistulae, and tissue necrosis are discussed. Also addressed is the use of new technology that may help minimize the side effects commonly caused by radiation therapy.
