A cigarette comprising a rod of snuff and a filter element connected to the rod snuff, said filter element an end proximal to the rod snuff and a distal end of the rod snuff, wherein said filter element comprising: a first section, extending longitudinally, fibrous filter material positioned at the end of the filter element proximal to the rod snuff; a second section, extending longitudinally, fibrous filter material positioned at the distal end of the filter element rod snuff and spaced from said first section of filter material, the two sections of filter material a compartment therebetween; and an adsorbent housed within at least a portion of said compartment material, wherein a plurality of channels extending through said first section of filter material, said adapted channels for passage of the mainstream smoke being between said rod of snuff and said compartment.
