A method for updating software of a vehicle, the method comprising: sending (106) an authentication signal from a vehicle key (102) to a first receiver (104); Forward 110) of the authentication signal from the first receiver (104) to a server (108); authenticate the vehicle key (102) by the server (108) using the authentication signal; if the server (108) authenticated successfully the vehicle key (102): determining an updated vehicle software on the server (108) associated with a vehicle (122) for which the server (108) the vehicle key (102) has successfully authenticated; transmit (112, 114) of the vehicle from the software server (108) via the first receiver (104) to a memory of the vehicle key (120); authenticate the vehicle key (102) relative to the vehicle (122); and if the vehicle (122) successfully authenticates the vehicle key (102): transmit the stored vehicle software update interface of the vehicle (122); and update a vehicle software with the transmitted vehicle software.
