The benefits of establishing interfaces between transmission and distribution and nuclear generating station organizations

1992
Electric utilities in the United States have traditionally maintained separate divisions of responsibility between transmission and distribution (T and D) and plant generation organizations. An additional inherent segregation exist between nuclear and fossil fuel organizations. In contrast, however, many of today's industry issues may have significant impact on both the T and D system and the generating plants in ways that magnify the need for better and more formal communications between the generating plants and transmission system. By establishing organizational interfaces to address mutual concerns and assure understanding of each other's unique requirements, engineering solutions can be derived that are economically beneficial and technically sound for each organization and therefore benefit the utility as a whole.
