Study of adriamycin to inhibit collagen proliferation on posterior capsule.

2003
Objective To investigate adriamycin (AMD) in inhibiting proliferation of collagen on rabbits posterior capsule and objective means for valuing posterior capsule opacification (PCO) after IOL implantation. Methods A polylactic acid (PLA) disk containing 22μg ADM was implanted between the posterior capsule and IOL during the ECCE and IOL implanting operation. At 4 weeks after operation, the posterior capsules of fifteen rabbit eyes were examined by slitlamp and sinus rose BB staining for identify type Ⅰ and Ⅲ collagen. Results The degree of PCO and the level of type Ⅰ collagen in the test group was significantly lower than that in control group at 4 weeks after operation. Conclusion ADM can prevent proliferation of collagen on rabbits posterior capsule and sirius rose BB staining provide an objective and experimental means for valuing PCO after IOL implanting operation.
