Statistical Analysis of Rail Shellings on Shinkansen Lines

On Tokaido and San-yo Shinkansen lines, running surface shellings have been occurring in large quantities. We have tried to investigate the actual situation of shellings in order to clarify their incidence mechanism ultimately. This is a report on the results of a statistical analysis which partially made clear the relationship between the incidence of shellings and track surroundings causing them.
