Simulations of Carbon-Dioxide Equilibrium Infrared Radiation Measurements

2018
This paper presents the simulations of equilibrium CO2 infrared radiation measurements. Transmission measurements and line-of-sight intensity measurements from microwave plasma torches and shock tubes were reviewed and used to assess the accuracy of the available spectral databases HITEMP and CDSD for equilibrium conditions relevant to Mars atmosphere entry flows. Various test cases were selected to quantify the accuracy and the computing time of the databases. Spectral radiative heat fluxes along lines of sight of both a typical Mars entry stagnation line and wake flows were computed. The influence of the database and the effect of the pressure as well as the temperature profiles on the spectral radiative heat flux are discussed.
