Technical incentive to high-waste-loading process of HLLW

1995
High-waste-loading process is an advanced treatment for solidification of HLLW (High-Level Liquid Wastes). The purpose of this treatment is volume reduction of HLLW by means of the separation of elements that limit the waste loading of glass. The process is composed of the separation of elements from HLLW, the solidification of the separated elements and the vitrification of HLLW that contains residual elements. On the basis of the concept of high-waste loading process, laboratory scale experiments were carried out. From the experiments, the volume of waste from the process was estimated to be half of that for typical waste loading (25wt%) of reference vitrified product. The results indicate that high-waste-loading process is feasible.
