The error control strategies for cut-through switching networks

1990
Error control strategies for cut-through switching networks are studied. Owing to the high speed and low bit-error-rate qualities of digital carrier systems or optical transmission systems, it seems unnecessary to link control functions at every node of the network. The error control done only at destination node (ECDN) strategy is therefore proposed. It is compared with the error control done at every node (ECEN) strategy from the viewpoints of transfer delay and buffer requirement. Through numerical examples, it is shown that the ECDN strategy performs better than the ECEN strategy if the increment of traffic intensity due to the error control functions at every node is not negligible. A simulation is also provided to support the validity of the analysis. >
