Defining and Improving Quality of Indigenous Preschool Education in Mexico: An Intercultural Perspective

2015
Quality early childhood care and education can be of great benefit to children, and so including all peoples, regardless of background, culture, or ethnicity, in such programs is important. In this article, the authors address the goals for early childhood care and education in indigenous communities in Mexico and in the country as a whole. Incorporating instruction in native languages and cultural education activities in student learning leads to more empathic, culturally aware, and globally minded citizens. In pursuing quality early care and education, all voices and perspectives should be considered. Parents and children of all backgrounds should feel they are considered in national decision-making.
