Renal function after Wertheim-Meigs operation for cervical cancer

1979
Abstract The authors have examined, after a lapse of time, 72 patients treated by radiosurgical therapy for stages I and II carcinoma of the cervix, in order to evaluate the consequences of this therapy on the renal function. The investigations carried out were: concentration and dilution tests, creatinine clearance, and isotopic renography. The results obtained showed the presence, in a considerable number of cases, of renal damage, especially regarding the glomerules, of mechanical alterations of the pyeloureteral joint, and of monolateral renographic lesions. On the basis of the data, the authors point out the need to submit patients treated by this therapy, even if they are apparently in good health, to periodic careful controls, in order to assess the renal functions and identify any alterations in good time.
