The changes of serum cyclooxygenase-2 and its association with insulin resistance in obese rats

2012
Objective To investigate the changes o f serum cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) level in different course and its association with insulin resistance in obese rats. Methods 36 Sprague-Dawlay male rats were randomly divided into two groups: the obese group and the control group. The blood sample was collected when the rats were killed at the end of the 14th and 20th week. The levels o f serum COX-2,IL-6,tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and C-reactive protein(CRP) were assayed. Results Both at the end of the 14th week and at the end of the 20th week, the levels of serum COX-2,IL-6,TNF-α and CRP were significantly higher in obese group than those in control group with the same week(P0.01).But in different week, the levels of serum COX-2,IL-6,TNF-α and CRP had no statistic significance in obese group(P0.05).Pearson linear correlation analysis showed that the level of serum COX-2 in obese group was positive correlation with body weight, viscera adipo weight and CRP,and inverse correlation with insulin sensitivity index(ISI).Conclusion The levels of inflammatory factors such as COX-2 did not change significantly in different course,COX-2 played an important role in obesity and insulin resistance related to obesity.
