Stress-relaxation behavior of fiber-reinforced polymer sheets at elevated temperatures

Abstract This research presents a detailed study on the effect of fiber type, elevated temperature, and strain level on the thermal relaxation performance of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets. Thermo-mechanical loadings were applied under 30 and 50 % strain levels at different temperatures ranging from 60 to 500 °C. The reductions in the tensile strength of FRP sheets under stress-relaxation behavior were calculated. The comparison of the failure duration of CFRP and GFRP specimens revealed that carbon sheets demonstrated higher resistance to thermal relaxation than glass sheets. The experimental results showed that failure modes of FRP sheets were sensitive to the applied temperature.
