Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM)
2021
Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is an on-going chronic or persisting otorrhea over 3–6 weeks through a perforated tympanic membrane without an intact tympanic membrane secondary to chronic inflammation of the middle ear and mastoid cavity. Acquired hearing loss is also characteristically found and if left untreated, can lead to further morbidity and mortality. Global or selective middle ear dysventilation syndrome with hypoxias and inflammation is the main pathophysiological factor.
