Study of a synthetic material from natural zeolite and peat and its ammonium nitrogen and phosphorus removal properties

2011
In this paper,a novel environment-friendly synthetic material made from natural zeolite, peat and cement as raw materials was investigated experimentally. When the mass ratio of natural zeolite, peat and cement is 7:1:4,the compressive strength of the synthetic material is higher than the value of solid concrete bricks of national standards with the lowest level of MU15.Meanwhile,the tensile strength is higher than the value of the concrete in the code for concrete structure design with the lowest level of C15.The experimental results showed that the synthetic material is water-resistant and it manifests effective ammonium nitrogen and phosphorus removal capacities. The adsorption behavior of the synthetic material fits well in the pseudo second dynamic model, the Langmuir model, and the Freundlich model.
