Application of Image Processing in Detecting the Pantograph Sliding

Based on broad investigation and research,it can be concluded that optical image processing technology can be used to detect the wear of the pantograph slides. This technology could ensure the traffic safety better. Since the illumination and the reflecting parts of an image are different and parts of the image with low illumination are not clear,the homomorphic filter is used to improve the image quality. Aluminum package on the pantograph slides makes edge detection quite convoluted. In this paper,2-spline wavelet arithmetic operator is applied to detect image edges. Practical test shows that this approach can overcome the difficulties in aluminum package detection and the accuracy on extracting the top and bottom edges of slides is greatly enhanced. The slides' remaining thickness can be calculated and the reliability of train detection is greatly improved.
