Reflections on the Development of English Major in the Underdeveloped Regions

In the underdeveloped regions of China,some problems have been existing in the cultivation of English teachers,major planning,course planning,enrollment scale,economic investment in the development of English major. To solve these problems,the English majors of these regions should be economically supported,the capability of scientific research of the English teachers should be improved and the number of Master Degree and Doctor Degree holders and the full-professorship bearers should be increased. The cultivation goals and planning ought to be consistent with the overall cultivation goals of the universities. In line with the multiplicity principle,the cultivation of talents majored in English should take the needs of markets into consideration. Concerning textbooks and teaching methodology,modern teaching devices and technologies should be applied in the English teaching. Meanwhile,the Master programs ought to aim at building a qualified and responsible supervisor team,who can take full charge of the quality of the Master theses. Furthermore,the underdeveloped regions should try their best to make a breakthrough in constructing a Doctoral program of the English major.
