[Plasma lipid levels after 12-24 months oral administration of contraceptives]
1971
41 healthy women 18-24 years of age on oral contraceptives 12-24 months were examined to determine triglyceride phospholipid total and free cholesterol and free fatty aids in blood plasma. 3 groups were formed corresponding to the varying hormonal combinations in the contraceptives: 1) preparations with low estrogen and gestagen doses 2) preparations with changing estrogen dosages and 3) preparations with low estrogen and gestagen doses alternating with other contraceptives. The results of these 3 groups were pooled and findings from women on a 2-phase preparation (estrogen dominant) included to make the total collective. 19 healthy untreated women in the same age group served as the control group. The triglycerides free cholesterol and free fatty acids exhibited no significant variances although triglycerides in group 1 showed a tendency to decrease. Phospholipids in all the groups were either significantly elevated or showed a tendency to elevation. Total cholesterol tended to increase in the pooled collective. The 3 groups did not differ significantly 1 from the other. The different ovulation inhibitors should now be investigated separately and throughly.
