Minimal hepatic encephalopathy

Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a neuropsychiatric disorder that may accompany either acute or chronic liver disease. It is defined as a disturbance of central nervous system function due to hepatic insufficiency and includes a large spectrum of clinical manifestations such as decreased intellectual function, personality disorders, alterations in level of consciousness and neuromuscular dysfunctions. According to the consensus conference of the 11 World Congress of Gastroenterology, it can be classified into 3 major clinical types:
