Oncedaily antibiotic regimen inpaediatric oncology

Thefeasibility andefficacy ofaoncedaily antibiotic regimenwere assessedin children withmalignant tumours. Overa 44monthperiod, 296febrile episodes weretreated witha regimenof once dailyceftriaxone-amikacin (and teicoplanin orvancomycin ifthepatient hada central line). Thetreatment was successful in272(92%)episodes without modification oftheantibiotic regimen, andonlyonepatient diedofuncontrolled sepsis. A oncedaily antibiotic regimen is therefore feasible andworthwhile inthe treatment offebrile episodes inchildren withcancer.
