Improved 3D Processing Turnround via Automatic Velocity Picking

1995
As much as 50% of the person-hours used for processing a typical 3D marine survey will be consumed by velocity interpretation. This fact has led to attempts to automate this processing step, in order to reduce processing costs and turnaround times. The prevailing view, however, is that automatic velocity interpretation rarely gives reliable results, and that velocity interpretation almost always needs human input.
