TENDÊNCIA TEMPORAL DA MORBIMORTALIDADE DO CÂNCER DE CABEÇA E PESCOÇO EM SANTA CATARINA

Introduction: Head and neck cancer is the denomination of neoplasms with an estimated global prevalence of 650,000 cases and 330,000 deaths annually. Objective: To analyze the temporal trend of morbidity and mortality due to head and neck cancer in Santa Catarina from 2008 to 2017. Material and method: An ecological observational study using as source the databases of the Hospital Information System (SIH), Mortality (SIM) and population data. Results: The prevalence rate of hospitalizations according to sex was 1.60 male: 1 female, the most affected age group was 60-69 years, and the South macro-region. Neoplasms of the skin of the face, scalp and neck (18%), thyroid (15%) and larynx (12%) were the most frequent. In relation to mortality, there was a predominance of males, aged over 80 years, and of South macro-region. And neoplasia of the larynx (27%) was the most frequent cause of death. Conclusion: The analysis showed a tendency to reduce hospitalizations in the age group from 60 to 69 years. In relation to deaths, there was a tendency towards stability in mortality and great variation in rates and temporal trends observed in the period, with emphasis on the tendency to reduce mortality in the macro-region of Foz do Rio Itajai and to increase mortality in the macro-region of the Midwest and Serra Catarinense.
