Pivampicillin: a preliminary report of its pharmacokinetic properties and therapeutic efficacy.

Pivampicillin2 is an acid stable ester of ampicillin. More of an administered oral dose is absorbed than ampicillin; thus following oral administration, when pivampicillin is rapidly hydrolysed to ampicillin, blood and urine concentrations are consistently higher than those obtained with equimolar doses of ampicillin.
