Subcutaneous fat tissue thickness measurement based on ultrasound

2009
This article presents the development of a subcutaneous fat tissue thickness measurement based on ultrasound. Currently, the instrument used for measuring the skinfolds thickness is the caliper. However, it is an instrument that requires a long training period in the anatomic measurement technical field. Measurement using ultrasound has been proposed as an alternative noninvasive technique to measure subcutaneous fat thickness because it may overcome some of the limitations of the caliper. The developed measurement instrument is based on the transmission and reception of acoustic waves. One of the most important requirements is the skinfolds thickness measurement accuracy. Is presented the principle of operation of the equipment and electronic circuits developed.
