Spoken Human-Machine Dialogue Workshop.
1995
Abstract : University research in natural language processing has reached a level of maturity that justifies an examination of the potential applications of this technology in the requirements and prototypes that support realization of Army Force XXI capabilities. And, there is a current need to identify and focus future basic research to ensure that the full potential of this technology is realized in both military and civilian applications. The state-of-the-art in natural language processing and, in particular, spoken human-machine dialogue was presented at the workshop by nationally recognized researchers in the field. The state-of-the-art in training systems that illustrate both virtual reality and spoken human-machine dialogue in training systems was demonstrated. Six workshop Working Groups met separately to consider possible applications of spoken human-machine dialogue in Army Force XXI requirements and prototypes. They also identified future basic research requirements in three areas: training; assistance; and operations.
