Receiver allocation in photonic bus networks

1993
Emerging photonic technologies will eventually tap the enormous bandwidth available on fiber-optic channels. As a result, many existing network structures may eventually be upgraded by inexpensive multichannel photonic realizations. Photonic Bus Networks (PBNets) consist of a linear network structure interconnected in a dual unidirectional bus virtual-topology using point-to-point optical channels [4]. Because of the photonic broadcast-and-select implementation [1], [2], the design is much more flexible than in conventional point-to-point fibre networks [4]. In this paper, receiver allocation is introduced. Receiver allocation is a simple method that exploits the broadcast-and-select implementation
