Proportionendenken und Staatsphilosophie: Edition und Übersetzung der Politischen Arithmetik von Joseph Louis Lagrange

In the year IV after the French revolution a collection of articles on Political Arithmetic was published, which contains, among others, a text by Joseph Louis Lagrange. In this text Lagrange applies proportional thinking to determine the nutrional requirements of the French population. He also exposes the difficulties that arise by faulty and defective trade registers. Philosophically interesting is that the ratio of meat and cereal consumption is defined as criterion by which the wealth of a nation can be measured. In this paper I offer an edition of this text with a commentary and also the first German translation.
