The most accurate predictions have usually been made on the basis of a careful study of history. The past tells one what to expect of the future. Because the history of otolaryngology has been highlighted by so many important discoveries and contributions to the welfare of the human race, it is impossible for me to approach the future of this specialty with other than optimism.
