Scaling Analysis of Crime Rate with Large Scale Judgments of China

Crime is a major threat to social security. Judgments are now publicly available online, which makes it possible to analyze the characteristics of criminal activities. Here, we analyzed the judgments of theft, fraud, drug crimes, dangerous driving and financial fraud of 14 provinces in China in 2016 and 2017. Experiments confirmed that crime concentrated in such a way that most offenses took place in few regions. The concentration of criminal activities depended on the type of crime and the province. The results indicated that financial fraud and dangerous driving were the most concentrated, theft and fraud were the next, while drug crimes fluctuated greatly in different provinces. However, even for the same crime, the concentration level was different in different provinces. The concentration level of financial fraud was not easily affected by the provinces. Theft and fraud were relatively stable. The concentration level of dangerous driving crime and drug crimes was more easily affected by the provinces themselves, especially drug crimes. The results of this paper provided a comprehensive understanding and a comparison of the crime situation of 14 provinces in China.
