Hemocholecyst. A case report.

"HEMOCHOLECYST" may be defined as blood within, or hemorrhage from, the gallbladder. Although this condition was first reported and described by Naunyn in 1892, 1 it was not until 1938 that Fiessinger and associates 2 used the term "hemocholecyst." They reported the case of a 4-year-old child who developed hemorrhage into a gallbladder which grossly and microscopically appeared quite normal and contained no stones. By 1961 the 34 cases reported in the world's literature were reviewed by Fitzpatrick 3 who presented an additional case, associated with a cholecystogastric fistula. In 1963 Horsburgh and Levi, 4 in reviewing the problem of "Haematocele of the Gall Bladder," stated that massive bleeding from the gallbladder itself is most often associated with cholecystitis and stones. There are reported instances 4-6 of bleeding into the gallbladder secondary to rupture of an aneurysm of the hepatic or cystic artery. Polyposis or malignancy of the gallbladder associated
