Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common cutaneous malignancy, with incidence rates increasing worldwide during the last few decades. Although distant metastases are rare, localized tissue invasion may induce considerable functional and cosmetic morbidity, which are particularly concerning as the majority of the lesions are located on the face.
