Circumcision and Frenuloplasty

2008
Circumcision is one of the oldest surgical operations, dating back to the Egyptian Pharaohs, and probably initially performed to prevent irritative balanitis in a hot, sandy environment. Religious circumcision performed neonatally or in infancy, as practiced by Jews, Muslims, Coptic Christians of Ethiopia, Bushmen of the Kalahari and Australian Aborigines, reflects similar geoclimatic origins of their forebears.
