Flexible Overdenture: A Clinical Case Report

2011
Abstract An overdenture is a complete or partial removable denture supported by retained roots or teeth or implant studs, that is intended to provide improved support, stability, tactile and proprioceptive sensation and to reduce ridge resorption. It is a prosthesis that is supported both by mucosa and by a few remaining natural teeth that have been altered to permit the denture to fit over them. A Flexible denture on the other hand is made up of a thermoplastic injectable resin that offers superior flexibility, transparency for optimal aesthetics and stress crack resistance. It is monomer-free dental polymer with low flexural modulus. This clinical case report is an attempt to combine the advantages of two treatment modalities i.e. over denture and flexible denture to provide comfort, esthetics and function to a partially edentulous patient.
