Reconfigurable Helical Antenna Based on Origami Neoprene with High Radiation Efficiency

This paper presents an endurable reconfigurable helical antenna fabricated with 0.1-mm thick conductive polyester sewed on 3-mm thick origami neoprene for more practical applications compared with previous origami antennas based on sketching paper. Measured results show that the proposed antenna achieves max. realized gain of 9.4 dB and 9.2 dB respectively at the unfolded and folded state with a measured 3-dB realized gain bandwidth (BW) of 64.3% and 76% at the two states. Further, the measured radiation efficiency at the two states during their operational BW is no less than 80%.
