Capacity improvement for WCDMA network

2013
This paper describes the coverage and capacity for WCDMA by considering different predication models. Modifications of these models were done by applying Principal Component Analysis (PCA) algorithm. The inspiration for PCA algorism is to enhance the accuracy for the existing empirical path loss prediction model. The advantage is that the design capacity of the system is low without greatly compromising prediction accuracy. So the aim of this approach is to increase the capacity without any extra investment in the system. From this study the performance of the models were evaluated by MSE. The result showed that the accuracy of the modified model is satisfactory and hence the capacity of the network is increased. Considering voice users 12.2 kbps, the MSE decreased by 2.48dB, 3.3 dB and 6 dB; the corresponding number of users increased by 13.67 %, 17.5 % and 28.4 % in the modified CCIR, WL-NLOS and COST231 Hata models respectively. The number of 64 kbps voice users is also increased by 20 to 43, on the other hand comparing voice users, 128 kbps data capacity there is not too much increase. In general the result has showed that increasing the accuracy of path loss predication improves WCDMA capacity.
