Many rural regions in Europe are undergoing a dynamic transition. Urbanisation, agricultural change, new patterns of production and consumption, and new societal demands are driving changes in the activities, functions and land use patterns in these areas. European regions respond in a variety of ways to the current challenges and create new social and economic spaces in which new actions and practices are given the capacity to develop.
