The Application of VRML and Web-GIS Technology for Efficient Management of Three Dimensional Facilities

2004
3D GIS was developed from 2D expression of 3D topography analysis in 1980, to the 3D topography visualization and analysis system, to the 3D virtual city implementation stage. Recently, VRML has been introduced for Internet GIS to extend 2D information into 3D and diverse trials have been performed to utilize the web's 3D capabilities. Diverse tools have been attempted utilizing 3D space with current techniques. But they are only able to visualize and analyze 3D topography using DEM data in VRML. The aim of this study is the develop the module that is able to construct GIS web server for 3D spatial facilities management in Web to use constructed data for creating, updating and constructing 3D VRML actively, and to carry out 3D spatial analysis and search the attributes.
