Community Analysis of Zooplankton in Acid Rivers

2012
To investigate the response of zooplankton to acid mine drainages and evaluate the environmental factors of the water near to Dabaoshan Mine in Guangdong, the survey of the status of zooplankton was conducted in September 2010.The species composition, abundance, diversity and evenness were compared between the acid impacted stations and the less contaminated sites, then the relationships between environmental factors and zooplankton community structure were pointed out.A total of 46 species were identified,24 species belonged to Rotifera,10 to Cladocera,9 to Copepoda and 3 to Protozoa. No zooplankton was found in impaired groups(S1~S3) which had been polluted heavily by acid mine drainage;Brachionus and Trichocerca were the dominant species in recovery groups(S4~S7) which were less contaminated. The abundance of zooplankton ranged from 0 to 378.26 ind./L and biomass varied from 0 to 1.990.1 mg/L.The diversity indexes and evenness of zooplankton ranged from 0 to 3 and from 0 to 0.61,respectively.Correlation analysis revealed that zooplankton community were significantly affected by pH,TN,NH3-N,CODMn,SiO43-,Pb and Cr.
