The Development of Main Function and Algorism for Implementing Mobile GIS

This paper describes algorism and main functions of Mobile GIS that is interested in GIS industry recently and we developed some modules of Mobile GIS that could run on mobile device such as PDA. Programming language used Microsoft's eMbedded Visual C++ 3.0. Also, we used Arcview's Shape file format as GIS graphic data and created a new file format that related graphic data with attribute data by analyzing the Shape file format. And, we implemented the basic function of GIS that could save, display, retrieve the new file format. In addition, for implementing GPS receive function necessary in Mobile GIS we developed a GPS receive module that could deal with GPS data connecting with portable GPS receiver. Data format transmitted from GPS receiver is NMEA 0183. by dealing with the data real-timely, we could represent dynamically the present position of GPS receiver on digital map displayed on PDA screen. We could proffer additionally data concerned in the number of satellite received and geometric arrange situation such as PDOP, Therefore, main functions of Mobile GIS developed through this study is expected to use very useful in Mobile GIS construction for outdoor service such as on-the-spot survey and business trip service.
