Single column ion chromatographic determination of anions in agriculturally useful quaternary compounds using indirect UV detection

1989
A method using a single strong anion exchange column and indirect UV detection was developed for the quantitative determination of anions in quarternary compounds and tested for methyl sulfate in AVENGE-herbicide. The method was also found useful for chloride and p-toluene sulfonate analysis in other quaternary compounds. Including an internal standard improves analysis precision from 1.5% to 0.6% standard deviation. A model was proposed explaining the effect of pH and eluent concentration on solute retention time. Retention time was found to be inversely proportional to eluent concentration and charge
