A Virtual Space Gaming Experiment System for Analyzing Waiting Behavior in a Public Square
2020
The aim of this study is to discover the characteristics of waiting behavior in a public square and the influence of others on waiting behavior. We develop a virtual space gaming experiment system that simulates waiting behavior in public spaces. This system was based on square research references and a behavioral experiment in the real space. The system was given the additional feature of eyeball expression, which simulates an awareness of other people’s gazes. In addition, the research clarifies the types and characteristics of waiting behaviors in gaming experiments. First, we categorized exploration behaviors to determine waiting spots and the factors that determine the body direction at a waiting spot. Second, the selection of a waiting spot can be categorized using three conditions relating to visual recognition by others, which are eye contact, gaze, and personal space. It was found that there is a relaxation order on these conditions when increasing the crowd density.
