Demographic Surveillance System--Matlab. Volume thirteen: cause of death reporting in Matlab. Source book of cause-specific mortality rates 1975-1981

This paper describes the system for cause of death reporting as it has evolved since 1966 in the context of the Matlab Demographic Surveillance System [in Bangladesh]. The validity of the reporting system is evaluated: the sources of potential bias are identified and their importance examined. Cause categories are reviewed to establish their relation to local descriptions and the possible medical diagnoses which might be subsumed by them. (EXCERPT)
