Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is a potent chemotactic component for polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN, neutrophils). Since LPS tolerance was first described, many studies have been reported about the hyporesponsiveness in vitro corresponding to attenuating production of proinflammatory cytokines.
