Bathroom safety considerations for clients with a disability and their carers

The bathroom is used on a frequent basis for a range of activities of daily living. However, the bathroom environment presents many hazards which carers and residents must be aware of. This article outlines some of the dangers that could impact on the safety of clients with a disability and their carers. Some suggestions to reduce risks and improve safety are given. Features such as mobility aids are also discussed, which relieve the burden on carers and increase client independence. This article is designed as a guide for health-care professionals who provide personal care to vulnerable clients.
