Objective : This study aimed to describe the set of clinical and sociodemographic characteristics of the Center for Psychosocial Care (CAPS I) in Sao Francisco do Conde, Bahia. Methodology: The study population consisted of 306 registered users of both sexes in service from January 2012 to July 2013. Proper form was used to collect secondary data contained in the files. The variables analyzed form the profile of patients with mental disorders in the municipality as having investigated sociodemographic characteristics: age, sex, ethnicity, education, religion, nationality and clinical aspects from the diagnostic presented according to International Classification of Diseases (CID-10), use of medications and therapies accessible to users. Results: The main results showed that the user population CAPS I there is a predominance of female patients (166/306, 54.2%), mean age 34.5 years, followers of the Catholic religion (130/306, 42, 5%), with predominant ethnic group of mixed race in 48.4% (148/306), completed elementary education (86/306, 28.1%) and with naturalness of Sao Francisco do Conde in 31.4% (96 / 306) of cases. Compared the diagnostic mental pathologies, we found that greater diagnostic incidence among males was related to mental and behavioral disorders due to psychoactive substance use (F10 – F19), while females were presented with diagnosed strong prevalence of mood [affective] disorders (F30 – F39). Conclusion: From the present study it became possible to characterize the clinical profile of patients seen at CAPS I, the sociodemographic characteristics of the patients treated in this public mental health services, their main diagnosis, the characterization of prescription drugs and the distribution of therapies indicated all compared between males and females, generating fundamental data for the development of
